Title: Longer Than That Road

For buffyaddict13, whose prompt was for gen happy-type-with-angst fic involving Sam and Dean hanging out over the years, based on the lyrics to the Beatles’ Two of Us. So: these are several vignettes on things the boys have seen and done together, in ways they never could or would with anyone else. 4500 words, PG-13 for language. Lyrics follow the tale.

For some reason I particularly liked the one with the diner. Elegant simplicity--yum. Also liked Dean baking pie crust, which makes him awesome in my book, because I couldn't make a crust if I was starving for pie. But Dean loves pie, so it would be a survival skill for him!

Having lived in Kansas for a majority of my life, I can tell you that it is incredibly easy to get lost on the backroads!! You captured that very well.

That was just fabulous! I loved the little insights into Dean's need to impress first John and then Sam, and his sudden moment of self-realisation at the end.

The "The devil doesn't exist," part was kinda hilarious, kinda sad too.

I'm back. I loved this so much! I love the tone from both of them - Dean's grousing, Sam's unconscious puppy dog-ness; their perceptions of each other, and even that which they cannot see (They were still playmates on some level. Dean's ubiquitous need to please their father, and Sam's inherent wish to rebel against him, was absent. Neither of them had an idea of it and they wuold have vehemently denied it had they been called on it at that point in their lives.)

I love them starting out drawing on the walls as practice for a job, but ending up with graffiti. I LOVE Dean cooking for Sam because that's so right. I just love the whole thing!

You (presumably Americans) have pastry crusts on Shepherd's pie??? That is just strange.
My fave segment was the ghostly diner, that was just a lovely interlude with a twist and could stand alone... :D

I loved the part with the shepherd's pie and rugelach. Ruggies happen to be a cherished family recipe so it made me feel particularly warm inside.
