Knew it inasmuch as he believed in fate or destiny or that what is for us does not pass by us. He didn’t expect it to make him faster or braver, he didn’t need the equivalent of Dumbo’s feather to keep going. He just wanted a reminder, a visual one he chose, one that wasn’t a scar. Like Sam and Dean are running thorugh the halls of life kicking open doors, right the hell off their hinges so they've always got a place to duck into if they need to retreat.
And now, of course, your bunnies have bred and I have this counterpart of someone Sam meets at college, who he thinks he chousld know but cna't remember where, who he never gets to know well but sees him in the periphery of his vision, in class, walking across the quad, but he kind of forgets him the moment he's out of sight.
