Damn you write such good fic. I'd hate you more if I could only stop loving you so intensely *grins
So much of this is fantastic - but the tone of voice is what just...gah...hits me time and time again. It's so good, I can hear him speak the words:
"Hey, Becca," Dean said, voice soft but edged with command, "Get out. Of. The car. Get down, and stay out of sight. You stay here no matter what you hear."
And then:
But if it's downloaded enough of me, hey. Good times." He grinned, but it was some strange mix of malicious self deprecation that startled Becca into looking away from him as he left.
Which was particularly lovely because it captures that self loathing that sometimes seems to be present in his character. Dean is such a Type A personality...the drive to be 'good' and to be accepted by his father...to be loved...that he just HAS to have that private record of self criticism playing on the big stereo of his life. Side A, track 7 "Counting the Ways That I Fail" *grins
As I've said before I must have a sadistic bent in my personality, cos I like to take my hero's on the suffering side, you write Dean so well for that. The sourness makes the sweetness all that sweeter when it comes *heh
Ok. Enough blathering...back to the praise :)
but it still wasn't him. It hadn't made it past all of the superficial layers he wore to keep the rain off.
and then:
Sam was every bright and healthy thing his mind didn't have room for right then, Sam would clear his head, Sam would make him incapable of destruction.
nice character insight with lovely clean sentences. It makes it all the more believable.
And finally the description of his reaction afterwards. It's so true to his character.
